Tomchei Shabbos of the five towns and far rockaway - in memory of Yeshaya alpert

Tomchei Shabbos Yad Yeshaya of the Five Towns and Far Rockaway, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was founded in 1985 in memory of Yeshaya Alpert z’l to provide food for Shabbos and Yom Tov to our needy neighbors. We currently support approximately 285 families on a weekly basis, with more receiving assistance before Pesach. Our 2015 budget is projected to be $650,000.

Even as the economy is rebounding, the effects of the recession are still felt by many local families. Many breadwinners still struggle with unemployment or under-employment. Additionally, the rising costs of food means that more families can’t afford basic groceries, and it costs Tomchei more to provide the food that they need. Every family is carefully vetted by rabbanim and community leaders.

All of the packaging and distribution is done by volunteers. Students at TAG spend their Thursday afternoons assembling the packages. More volunteers then come to pick up the packages and discreetly deliver them to the anonymous recipients.

We invite you to partner with Tomchei Shabbos and help ensure food, peace of mind, and kavod Shabbos for all of our neighbors in the Five Towns and Far Rockaway. Click here to donate.
